Design Persona
Hi,
My name is Sabine Pollak, I am from Auckland and have lived there all my life. I knew that I wanted to study something in the art/design field because I’ve always particularly loved art and design subjects (even finger painting in primary school). I took these subjects throughout high school, painting being my favourite subject. Even though it’s stressful at times, art has always been something therapeutic and enjoyable for me.
Although I do generally like Auckland, I wanted a change for university. Otago seemed a bit too far away and cold, and I’ve always liked Wellington so I explored what was there to study in the art/design field. This was how I initially stumbled across the Bachelor of Design Innovation at Victoria. As soon as I read the course description I knew it was what I wanted to study.
While I’m still figuring out my strengths and weaknesses in this field, there are some aspirations that I do already have. I would love to somehow get into the film industry, film being another of my passions. Ideally, I would be incorporating design and film to have a career such as makeup or set design for films. Although the film industry is so huge, and it’s difficult to be successful in, I have always felt that this was an area at which I could excel and am passionate about.
I feel that attending Design school is the best way to achieve this goal and gain practice and experience in this area that I am still grasping. I love the freedom given to us to explore and show our creativity, and this has already helped me to push my creativity more than I would have, surprising even myself.
