My
interactive object involves the hearing and visual senses, this object will
become ‘active’
when opened and ‘inactive’ when closed again. I took a specific lolly brand and type and insert a sound device that emits sound when the package is opened. As well as this feature, I inserted LED lights into the package that emit light corresponding to the sound when the box is opened. These two features will surprise the user as well as play with their expectations of the experience of opening a lolly packet. Using a pre-made sound device, I plan to have a simple yet distinctive and loud song playing that is memorable for the user so they can associate the sound with my object. Ideally, the user will be surprised that this simple and ordinary object is emitting not just sound; but a loud and clear song.
Instruction
The
instructions for my delicate interactive object are relatively straightforward.
As with any
box of jelly beans, the user simply needs to open the lid for the box to become an interactive object. |

112 Object Change
Unfortunately with working with the same box of jelly beans for the entire project, the box has become tattered and is difficult to attach the sound device to due to its tiny size. I think I will have to use another box i purchased, its the same brand, Jelly Bellys, but is a slightly bigger box and it also has a small clear sections so as to see the jellybeans through, this will add to the suprise as the user can literally see jelly beans in the box.

112 Progress Images-Feathers
I wanted to incorporate scent into my design so I tried to do this by adding scent to feathers and sticking those on top of the jelly bean box. I soaked the overnight for a few days in lemon scented oil and then dried them out, unfortunately this made the feather become a bit tattered and eventually looked too messy to use in my design

112 Storyboard Images
This is what my A3 storyboard looks like: there are 8 images showing the users intended experience/interaction with my object.
112 Interactive Proposal
Interactive proposal outlining ideas.
For my interactive object, I plan to
re-invent the typical packet of lollies. Involving the hearing and visual
senses, this object will become ‘active’ when opened and ‘inactive’ when closed
again. I aim to take a simple box of one specific lolly brand and type and
insert a sound device that emits sound when the package is opened. As well as
this feature, I plan to insert LED lights into the package that emit light
corresponding to the sound when the box is opened. These two features will
surprise the user as well as play with their expectations of the experience of
opening a lolly packet.
Using a pre-made
sound device, I plan to have a simple yet distinctive and loud song playing
that is memorable for the user so they can associate the sound with my object.
I will use a soldering iron to connect the LED wires to the main board so that
all the internal pieces are connected on one main board and are coherent with
one another.
Ideally, the
user will be surprised that this simple and ordinary object is emitting not
just sound; but a loud and clear song. This will be further enhanced by the
sight of LED lights, which will add to the users shock of this interactive
object.
